Paul Robeson: Talk & Film

Sunday 05 Jun, 4pm - 6.30pm

Talk: Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?

A 50-minute illustrated lecture about Paul Robeson, given by the broadcaster and writer Paul Allen, particularly exploring his long connection with the South Wales mining community. Paul Allen was the writer and narrator of last year’s highly successful Klever Kaff, Bath MusicFest’s tribute to Kathleen Ferrier.

Followed by
Film: The Proud Valley

The 1940s Ealing Studios feature, starring Paul Robeson. Its simple, moving tale of an African American man adopted by a Welsh coalmining community (and local male-voice choir) concealed a fierce left-wing polemic on the struggles of the working-classes, and is now considered one of Robeson’s finest films.
