Bath Festivals' Education Programme... developing the enquiring mind.
Bath Festivals provide a year round programme of educational events and activities enabling people to develop their creativity. The work we do during the Bath International Music Festival is just one part of the work we carry out across Bath and North East Somerset with a variety of partners throughout the whole year. We run targeted education programmes in schools, youth centres and community settings and we are happy to talk to people about our work and the development of future programmes. Education work in 2009
In 2009 Bath Festivals Education Programme was influenced by fairy tales, Whale Song and the work of David Rothernberg, and the creative ideas of children and young people in our community.Highlights from this year's projects and events included the Party in the City commission and we were delighted to have worked with teachers and students from seven schools across Bath and North East Somerset as well as composer Stephen Hiscock. This special commission for the opening event in Bath Abbey at Party in the City was a fantastic opportunity to hear talented young musicians perform all over the Abbey. As part of our continuing partnership with Three Ways Special School and Bath Philharmonia we developed a cross art form project inspired by David Rothenberg's exploration of whale song. The culmination of this work took the form of a music and dance performance by students from Three Ways School and Hayesfield Secondary School in July. Please watch this space for information on our education programme for Bath International Music Festival 2010.
